aiESG to conduct ESG evaluation and analysis of Yame Tea for Yame City, Fukuoka.

INDEX

Visualizing the ESG advantages of local resources to enhance the value of local products and export potential

(aiESG; Head office: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka; Representative Director: Shunsuke Managi; hereafter "aiESG"), a developer and provider of consulting and cloud services for product- and service-level supply chain ESG analysis and evaluation, has started ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) evaluation and analysis services for the production and distribution of Yame Tea, a specialty product of Fukuoka Prefecture, commissioned by the city of Yame, Fukuoka. Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, to conduct an ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) evaluation and analysis of the production and distribution of Yame tea, a specialty of the region. This initiative aims to visualize the environmental impact of the Yame tea production process and quantify social factors such as the labor environment and regional cooperation, with the aim of realizing sustainable agriculture and revitalizing the local economy. In addition, we will support the development of ESG indicators and the preparation of an analytical report to promote the value of Yame tea in the domestic and international markets.

 Background and Objectives

Yame-cha is widely known as one of Japan's leading high-quality green teas, but it also faces challenges such as climate change and a lack of successors. The purpose of the survey commissioned this time was to identify ESG differentiation items for Yame-cha, a specialty tea, through data, and to identify materials that can be appealed as new brand value as a regional specialty product. In particular, by comparing and evaluating environmental impact, social considerations, and governance systems in light of international sustainability standards, the study is expected to contribute to expanding sales channels to overseas markets and strengthening the competitiveness of local industries.

aiESG is a startup from Kyushu University. It uses proprietary AI and data science technologies and supports more than 3,200 ESG-related analysis items. In particular, aiESG's strength lies in its ability to quantify Scope 3 (indirect emissions and environmental and social impacts throughout the value chain), which until now has tended to be a black box, and to visualize the sustainability of the entire supply chain.

In this project, aiESG's proprietary ESG analysis method will be used to compare Yame tea with products from overseas and quantify the "invisible value" in the data.

The main contents of this work are as follows

  • Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Yame Tea Production, Processing, and Distribution Processes from an ESG Perspective
  • Extraction of ESG differentiation points by comparison with foreign teas
  • Visualization and reporting of advantages and improvements based on ESG indicators

 Comments

Comment from Yame City

The city has a wide variety of specialty products ranging from agricultural products such as Yame tea, strawberries, local sake, lanterns, and Buddhist altars to traditional crafts. By conducting an ESG evaluation of the city's specialty products, we expect to be able to communicate to a large number of people the invisible value of these products in addition to their quality, thereby expanding the market, including exports, improving the brand image, and revitalizing local industry. Yame tea, for which this survey is being commissioned, is highly regarded both domestically and internationally as a top-quality tea brand, and we hope that the ESG evaluation will help improve the social value of Yame tea beyond its quality, thereby further enhancing its brand power and gaining trust and credibility around the world, which we hope will lead to publicity for our city. We hope that this will help to further enhance the brand power and gain trust and credibility around the world.
