In this article, we introduce Mr. Ishikura, who is active in the Analysis and Insights (A&I) Department!

Kazuki Ishikura
After receiving a master's degree in geophysics from Kyoto University, he worked in the oil and gas development industry, where he was responsible for data analysis and project economic evaluation of oil and gas fields around the world. He worked as a lead data scientist at a data analysis company, where he was involved in demand forecasting/inventory optimization, customer product analysis, causal inference (effectiveness verification), and LLM solution development. He then joined aiESG and is currently engaged in project management, consulting, and solution development.

Mr. Ishikura, a father of two children, is giving his all in his work and child-rearing, and he is making daily efforts so that his daughter, who is getting more and more mature, will not say, "I hate daddy! Ishikura, please do your best... (laughs) (Laughs)

Big jobs that make an impact.

I have been interested in engineering since I took the university entrance exam. Although there are many different fields of engineering, I had a vague idea that I wanted to do something that would have an impact on society, and I came to think that I wanted to work in the field of infrastructure that supports society, where I could make a significant contribution to humanity and the earth.

In college, I went into the field of geo-engineering and studied all aspects of the earth, including the environment, civil engineering, and natural resources. Although I was interested in all fields, I chose the field of natural resources in graduate school because I was interested in data-based resource exploration techniques for oil, gas, and other resources that are indispensable to our daily lives.

Seeking a place where I can make the most of my strengths

After earning my master's degree, I wanted to put my research to good use, so I joined a company in the oil and gas development industry. I was involved in a large scale job of finding potential underground oil and gas reservoirs based on data, drilling wells, and producing.

I was building my career while stationed overseas in Australia and Malaysia, but at a time when the movement of people and logistics came to a halt due to the new coronavirus, oil prices also collapsed, and society began to move in a more decarbonized direction than before. As a result, the oil and gas development industry began to shift to renewable energy sources such as geothermal and solar. Although I was still interested in the energy sector, it was not a field where I could fully utilize my experience, so I switched to a data analytics company with a focus on data science. While working as a data scientist handling data from a variety of industries, I was looking for a company where I could better utilize my strengths in the environment and natural resources field when I came across aiESG.

It's not what you make with AI, but what you use AI for

With many AI startup companies in the market and the growing demand for data scientist jobs, my choice of company was based on "what will AI be used for" in addition to "a job where I can utilize my strengths. I wanted a job that would have an impact on society. I have not changed my mind since I was a student that I want to do a job that has an impact on society, so I am attracted to aiESG's work, where I can use AI to have an impact on society without being satisfied with myself for having created something good with AI.

Ideas that come from a cross section of diverse backgrounds

As the company name suggests, aiESG has many engineers with experience in the fields of AI and ESG. Some are particularly good at AI image systems, others have a strong background in statistical theory, and still others have technology in addition to a background in environmental regulations. Because we work with people from diverse backgrounds, we often see different things when we have individual discussions with several people on the same topic. None of them are wrong, and when they are multiplied to produce a high-level product, I find it enjoyable because it becomes my own realization. Therefore, aiESG's corporate culture that allows and facilitates the multiplication of knowledge and experience gained from each other's backgrounds is also attractive.

Career Vision - To be a bridge between research and customers.

In my experience, I have had many opportunities to communicate with customers and non-technical people, not just to do data analysis. aiESG has many great technicians who have done research in this field, but it is difficult to explain AI tics and complexities to customers based on this prerequisite knowledge. However, even if we explain the complexities of AI to our clients based on this knowledge, it will not be conveyed well. Therefore, I hope to be a bridge between research and customers.

I would like to create new projects and solutions based on the issues our clients are facing, and I hope that the company will grow along with them.
