(aiESG; Head office: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City; President: Shunsuke Managi) is an AI start-up company from academia that provides consulting and cloud services for product and service level supply chain ESG analysis and evaluation. In addition to attracting excellent human resources to drive the growth of its business, aiESG has begun disseminating information to help solve social issues surrounding the careers of doctoral candidates.

Our goal is to encourage Ph.D. graduates and those who plan to obtain a Ph.D. degree to never give up their research activities of intellectual pursuit and to apply their findings to the growth of private companies, especially startups. We will be releasing career interviews with PhDs working within aiESG, and at the same time, we will hold career seminars with companies that are also actively hiring PhDs. The first event will be held online on Friday, March 14, 2012, jointly with Genie, Inc.

Current Situation Surrounding Doctoral Talent

Among major countries, only Japan has a declining trend in the number of doctoral degree holders. In addition, the career path of Japanese PhD graduates tends to be biased toward employment in university teaching and research institutes, and only 36.01 TP3T are employed in the private sector in Japan, compared to 56.21 TP3T in the US and 80.01 TP3T in Korea.

This current situation has created the following challenges for doctoral personnel as well as for companies

• D. graduates with excellent degrees are stuck in career development with limited options and unstable employment treatment.
• D. graduates' expertise and research results are not fully utilized for corporate growth and solving social issues.
• Companies lack understanding of the career development and utilization of doctoral personnel.
