What is aiESG (aiESG), a product-level ESG analysis service?

In recent years, ESG initiatives have become increasingly important for companies. The Japanese Government announced the Carbon Neutral Declaration in October 2020, and in April 2023 it became a de facto requirement for public procurement to identify and improve human rights violations. However, assessing social impacts, including human rights, at the product level requires extensive estimates throughout the global supply chain. The challenge for companies has therefore been how to estimate social impacts and identify ESG risks in a variety of areas around the world.

aiESG is the world's first service that enables comprehensive ESG analysis at product and service level. Using AI analysis based on our ESG supply chain big data, aiESG can provide detailed calculations for more than 3,200 ESG indicators and enables comparisons with industry averages and conventional products. In particular, the CO2It is the world's first solution in that it can quantitatively assess not only environmental aspects such as human rights, biodiversity and labour environment, but also social and governance aspects, including human rights, biodiversity and labour environment, which have become increasingly important in recent years.

Furthermore, analysis by aiESG enables geographical estimation, which is difficult with conventional Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and enables visualisation of environmental, social and corporate governance hotspots, not only for direct suppliers, but also for secondary and upstream suppliers.

In addition, as the only data required from the customer is product cost composition data or physical quantity data, ESG supply chain disclosures, which previously required huge amounts of man-hours, are facilitated.

The results of this estimation will be verified and certification services will be provided by an international academic organisation. This certification service will enable the company to demonstrate its ESG initiatives more clearly to investors and consumers. An announcement on this certification will be made shortly by the certifying body.

Comment from Shinya Sakaguchi

Infronia Holdings is taking on the challenge of transforming itself into a 'comprehensive infrastructure services company' with a free thinking approach that is not bound by the 'build and build' approach of the past. We have recently launched an ESG analysis by aiESG to visualise what contribution our infrastructure operation business is making to society. We want to use it not only as a quantitative evaluation of ESG initiatives that trace back through the supply chain, but also as an indicator that can provide hints for new businesses by visualising elements such as initiatives to solve social issues that could not be quantified before, and even converting them into economic value. We are very much looking forward to working with aiESG, the world's first ESG assessment that is distinct from conventional ESG assessments.

Senior Executive Officer, Nitto Denko Corporation
Comment by Nobuyuki Aoki

Nitto Denko is a high-performance materials manufacturer that provides a wide range of products from electronics to life sciences on a global scale. The company places ESG at the heart of its management and has established an internal scheme to visualise the degree of contribution to the global environment and human society made by the products and services it provides, and to certify products and services that make a particularly high contribution as PlanetFlags™/HumanFlags™.
We believe that by utilising aiESG's services, we can streamline the collection, analysis and reporting of ESG information for sustainable management, leading to the formulation of more concrete measures and confirmation of progress. We will continue to link ESG initiatives to new business opportunities, aiming to both solve social issues and create economic value.

Sojitz Corporationexecutive officer General Manager, Metals, Resources and Recycling Division
Comment from Osamu Matsuura

As a general trading company, we are developing globally to 'provide goods and services in pursuit of a market-in perspective', and there is an even stronger need to create an ESG-conscious supply chain.
The world is beginning to pay attention to the complementary nature of climate change and biodiversity, and is moving towards strengthening carbon neutral and nature positive initiatives throughout the supply chain on both axes. Furthermore, consideration for human rights is also essential for responsible supply chains.
The world's first service launched by aiESG is considered unique and innovative in that 1) it enables ESG assessments of the entire supply chain on a product or service basis, and 2) the product was designed by Mr Managi (President of the company), a world-leading researcher in the field of natural capital.
We expect that this alliance partnership will provide strong support from the ESG assessment aspect for the resource and materials supply chain development we are promoting with our customers.
